Web Authoring and Design
This website promotes the band 'Slipknot', as well as having an online shop and blog for current fans.
Generally when people are visiting this website, it is through the sites mobile application 'Outside the 9'. This is a social media type app which allows visitors to be a part of the band's official fan club. But their visitors are also likely to be for people wanting to buy merchandise or watch videos.
Using a navigation bar at the top of the page, users are able to direct themselves to whatever they have come to the website for. This also includes a direct link to the ‘Zippo’ website where users can go to buy any Slipknot related Zippo Products. The top of the home page also has links to various social media, and audio/video sites (namely iTunes and Spotify).
On the home page, as well as a navigation bar the page also has regular sized boxes which display various bits of information. This enables the user to get a visual look of things before clicking on the information.

This website posts reviews of comic books and related items, but it also serves as a forum-type social network.
Again, the users are given a navigation bar at the top of the page which has various drop-down menus so that users can access specific articles or forums. This website also has a search bar so that the user can search for specific things, this is highly beneficial to a forum type website because it has thousands of users posting articles every single day meaning it’s forever expanding so if the search bar was not there then a user would find it highly difficult to find something like a review from 2010 on Batman: Hidden Treasures.
The home page also provides various boxes which display an image and then give a little insight to whatever it is about. It has a constant update of the ‘Latest Stories’ so users can regularly look through what is new.
BBC News
This section of the main BBC website is there to provide the UK with all the latest news and current affairs.
This also uses both a navigation bar and search bar so that the user can find their way around the website. Generally people only visit this website for things which have happened recently, so the search bar works through entering an area to find local news rather than finding specific articles on the website. Everything is incredibly linear so it is easy for anyone to find the information they are looking for.
This website is a photo and video sharing social network which was originally a mobile phone application, the website was created due to it's immense popularity.
The website and app all use the same navigation but with slightly different layouts. On the website, their is a search and navigation bar at the top of the page so users can find various profiles or posts. This, like many social networks, is done by using a 'hash-tag'. This, in case you wasn't aware, is the hash symbol followed by a word or phrase. For example, #Masks. Instagram also has an 'explore' feature. When the user clicks the explore button it takes them to a page which has a plethora of images and videos with similar tags, or that are popular posts among the people the user is following.
Instagram works by a simple side-scroll to look through posts. When using the search or explore features the app displays the images in a grid so multiple posts can fit on the screen at ones. This means if the user wishes to view the post fully or to comment/ like etc. then they click the image which takes them to the full post. The website version does the same but with a clearer display and by scrolling over the image users are able to see the amount of comments and likes the post has so far.
Ocado
Ocado is an online supermarket which unlike it's main competitors, works online only with no physical stores.
Compared to these other sites, Ocado has a relatively complex navigation system. And this is completely intentional, as it is a supermarket they are constantly hitting you with advertisements. Like all of these websites it has a navigation bar, but even the drop-down menus boldly outline offers to tempt the user in to spending more money.
When you have searched for an item it shows you every product which is linked to it, as you scroll through the items there is an option to click the 'add' button which adds it to your virtual shopping basket. Of course in order to buy these items you will be made to create a profile and link some form of payment method to your account, it does give you the option to register your profile using PayPal which makes the account registering easier of course.
